About

This site is named SelfAssigned because my work is now primarily personal, I choose the subject matter. I photographed weddings professionally for over a decade and worked with my final couple in 2016. The camera remained close at hand as I transitioned to photographing my travels.

Film was my first photographic medium. I photographed landscapes with Fuji Velvia, weddings with Kodak Portra and Fuji NPS and NPH, everyday scenes with Fuji Astia, and B&W with Ilford Delta. I loved my Canon 1VHS, Contax G2, and Mamiya RZ67 Pro II but they became expensive to use. Enjoying the digital transition, I ‘m currently using the Canon 5D MkIII, and Fuji X-Pro1. As you can see, I’ve stopped chasing every new generation of camera.

I’ve worked in dark churches and city halls, vineyards and wineries, parks and beaches, ballrooms and social clubs, hotel rooms and mansions, city streets and gardens, rail cars and luxury city flats. Along the way I met and worked with wonderful people, experienced unique ethnic celebrations, and lucky enough to have my work published. I’ve been fortunate to have traveled domestically and internationally visiting unique places like Ambergris Caye, Quebec City, the Scottish Highlands, Monaco, Bruges, Cinque Terre, Siena, Vienna, Munich, Tuscany, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Tokyo, Nanjing, Kaifeng, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Xitang, Hong Kong, and Singapore. I hope to expand this list as well as revisit many of these!

Look forward to featuring street and travel work here, sharing what I learned while abroad, and helping others add to their picture taking skills and techniques. Let’s get started!
